Surprise at the Rappahannock River!

I tried several times to back Woodstock into my friend Christina’s narrow driveway. I didn’t want to mess up her tree or my air conditioning unit. After several cautious attempts, I followed my gut and decided to do what my soul had been wanting to do all along!

Hey Christina, “Shall we gather at the river?” It was a gorgeous fall day. Can you meet me at the dock? She immediately replied, “SURE!”

Close to the dock, there’s a beautiful view of the river with a flat, grassy parking lot surrounded by trees. I set everything up just as if I was going to have a concert right there!

I WASN’T planning for a concert. I simply wanted to share everything with my brilliant musical friend and get her feedback. Since I couldn’t fit in her driveway or park on the street, this would be a pretty spot that was convenient and close to her house.

Just as I began singing the very first song, a van parked across the lot, and a young couple helped an elderly man get into a wheelchair. The man’s granddaughter had decided to give pop-pop a fall outing at the river and provide him a small break from his dementia care facility.

I thought I was getting ready for feedback and coaching from a dear friend, and just like that, our meeting at the river turned into a private concert for this lovely family.

They sang along, smiled, laughed, and made videos of pop-pop as I serenaded their grandad. Then, the granddaughter’s partner relaxed and created his own awesome front row seat from the back of HIS van!

At the end, they gave pop-pop money to put in the “cash for gas” tip jar.

An unusual venue calls for an unusual tip jar! 😜

The tip jar was only out so I could share my new set up with my friend.

I got a lump in my throat as they pushed the wheelchair across the gravel

so he could put money in my gas can and thank me for their private concert.

My heart was full and grateful that I couldn’t fit my van in my friend’s driveway and that we had the chance to gather at the river just at the right moment! ❤️

P.S. I had so much wonderful help and many divine appointments on this first long trip in my new home. These pictures are intentionally dark to protect this gentleman’s privacy and let you see from a distance a fun, spontaneous moment.

Coming soon - My super cool encounter with two lovely ladies from Nepal and the second oldest massive poplar tree in the state of VA. Can’t wait to show you this amazing tree. It was a day I will never forget.
