“I can go on stage and sing for hundreds of people and never be the least bit nervous, but if you asked me to go on social media and post unedited raw clips made from my cell phone, it would require another world of courage that I couldn’t even imagine!” - Courtney
I couldn’t agree more with this statement that my dear friend Courtney recently shared with me. The picture above was made in Sept. 2021. No, I didn’t jump out of the plane, but it was thrilling to go with a group of skydivers and watch them leap into the air. It was an amazing last-minute free opportunity that literally all happened within about 15 minutes. It didn’t require courage at all. I just seized the spontaneous opportunity and squealed with delight in the sky.
However, posting my recent one-minute iPhone concert took TONS of courage! What will people think of me? But it isn’t studio quality, … And a thousand other doubts flood my mind every time I post. Whereas, riding in the plane with skydivers happened so quickly, I didn’t have time to doubt myself, and I didn’t have to summon any courage.
So why on earth would I put myself through something that scares me? We all know that growth happens on the other side of fear. Every time I create a one-minute concert on my iPhone, I learn and grow. My hope is that when I record professionally on Oct. 14 and 15th these one-minute “concerts” will have helped me be better prepared in the studio. I am so done with living my life worried about what other people think of me AND I realize now.. they never really were thinking about me in the first place!
So I would love to encourage you to do something that scares you. What would you do if you weren’t worried about what other people thought of you?You can do it! Don’t let the fear of other people’s judgment keep you from flying high towards your dreams!
Speaking of fear…I wasn’t nervous at all to chat with Stella for a radio broadcast in AR. However, when I listened to it months later live in VA, I was very nervous! My amazing cousin in TX and my gal pals in AR rallied around me as they listened to the broadcast and texted me messages such as, “Oh, I like that song, or you sound so relaxed, and my grandchild is enjoying your music.” Their encouragement was a gift that calmed my nerves as I listened to the recorded broadcast.
Since I am encouraging you to be brave, I will put on my big girl bravery boots and share that radio replay below. I hope the stories, music, or interview might inspire you while you are driving or multitasking this weekend.
Cheers and thanks to you for reading and following me on my journey.
I appreciate you.
Sending you love and courage!
